چکیده

Hot super-Earths are exoplanets with masses ≤ 10M⊕ and orbital periods≤ 20 days. Around 8 hot super-Earths have been discovered in the neighborhood of solar system. In this lecture, we review the mechanisms for the formation of hot super-Earths, dynamical effects that play important roles in sculpting the architecture of the multiple planetary systems. Two example systems (HD 40307 and GJ 436) are presented to show the formation and evolution of hot super-Earths or Neptunes.

We develop a semi-analytic model for planet formation during the pre-main sequence contraction phase of a low mass star. During this evolution, the stellar magnetosphere maintains a fixed ratio between the inner disk radius and the stellar radius. As the star contracts at constant effective temperature, the ‘snow line’, which separates regions of rocky planet formation from regions of icy plane...

Migration and Final Location of Hot Super Earths in the Presence of Gas Giants

Based on the conventional sequential-accretion paradigm, we have proposed that, during the migration of first-born gas giants outside the orbits of planetary embryos, super Earth planets will form inside the 2:1 resonance location by sweeping of mean motion resonances (Zhou et al. 2005). In this paper, we study the subsequent evolution of a super Earth (m1) under the effects of tidal dissipatio...

Tidally Driven Roche-lobe Overflow of Hot Jupiters with Mesa

Many exoplanets have now been detected in orbits with ultra-short periods, very close to the Roche limit. Building upon our previous work, we study the possibility that mass loss through Roche lobe overflow (RLO) may affect the evolution of these planets, and could possibly transform a hot Jupiter into a lower-mass planet (hot Neptune or super-Earth). We focus here on systems in which the mass ...

Observable Consequences of Planet Formation Models in Systems with Close-in Terrestrial Planets

To date, two planetary systems have been discovered with close-in, terrestrial-mass planets (. 5−10M⊕). Many more such discoveries are anticipated in the coming years with radial velocity and transit searches. Here we investigate the different mechanisms that could form “hot Earths” and their observable predictions. Models include: 1) in situ accretion; 2) formation at larger orbital distance f...

Planet Formation around Stars of Various Masses: Hot Super-earths

We consider trends resulting from two formation mechanisms for short-period super-Earths: planetplanet scattering and migration. We model scenarios where these planets originate near the snow line in “cold finger” circumstellar disks. Low-mass planet-planet scattering excites planets to low periastron orbits only for lower mass stars. With long circularisation times, these planets reside on lon...
